ATTENDANCE

Wisconsin School Attendance Law states that all students are expected to attend school regularly except for illness or family emergency.  Regular school attendance is one of the most important habits a student can develop beginning in Kindergarten and continuing throughout the school years.

Parents are asked to call school prior to 8:00 am the day of the student's absence and explain the reason of the absence.  If parents or guardians do not call the school when a student is absent, the school will call the parent or guardian at home or work.  Please call 938-PONY (938-7669).  This line is accessible 24 hours a day.  Upon returning to school, the student should bring a note to the office detailing the reason absent or tardy.  The school determines if the absence is excused or unexcused.  Excused absences include, but are not limited to: illness or injury, medical or dental appointments, death in the family, funerals, court or other outside legal matters, in-school and out-of-school suspensions and extreme weather conditions.  Unexcused absences are those which school officials judge to have occurred because of an inappropriate reason, regardless of parent approval.  These include, but are not limited to truancy, shopping trips, beauty appointments, haircuts, transportation problems such as missing the bus or car breakdown, oversleeping, personal reasons, removal from class due to discipline problems.

Middle school and high school students are required to obtain an admit slip from the office upon returning to school.  The student has each teacher whose class was missed sign the admit slip, and returns it to the office a the end of the day.

Students who know they will be absent, need to request an advance make-up slip from the office.  Parents should either call the school or send a note indicating the reason for the upcoming absence a week in advance, if possible.  The advanced make-up form, signed by the students' teachers must be returned to the office before the absence, unless circumstances make advance notice impossible.  The advanced work is to be completed as agreed upon by each teacher.
