Surname: Lamson
Died-At her home in Albany on Sunday, Dec. 4, 1892, Mrs. E.S. LAMSON, aged 68 years, 10 months and 8 days.  Sarah Butler was born in the town of Lester, Livingston Co., NY Jan 26, 1824; was married Aug. 12, 1845 to E.S. Lamson; died Dec. 4, 1892 after an illness of but a few weeks.  Deceased has not been in good health for a number of years.  After marriage she and her husband came west and settled in Dane Co.  In Nov. 1855 they settled in Green Co., where they have since resided.  Eight children were born to them, three of whom died in infancy, leaving five children, four sons and one daughter, with the husband, to mourn their loss.  Sister Lamson was converted in 1848 and joined the M.E. Church of which she has been a devoted and faithful member until called to the church triumphant.  No one could say aught against Mrs. Lamson.  She was somewhat retiring by nature, yet a deep piety and true spirituality was the leading characteristic of her life.  She lived to see all her children grow up and in strong hope of a blessed immortality she was patiently waiting for the summons to release her from the decrepitude of age.  The writer called to see her in her last sickness and she spoke of death with as much composure as though it was but a short journey.  Another of the truly good women has gone from amongst us, whose departure we deeply mourn, and of our sympathies and prayers the family shall surely share.  The funeral was held from the M.E. Church yesterday at 1:00 pm, conducted by rev. H.A. Rogers.   H.A.R.

John Lemmel, one of the best known of the older residents of Green County, died at his home in this city Monday, June 19, 1890 at 9:00 in his 74th year.  Mr. Lemmel was a native of France, born in Hiertigheim, near Strasbourg, Nov. 2, 1825.  He attended school as he had opportunity and 16 years old, when he was apprenticed to an older brother to learn the trade of a tailor.  After serving his time he went to Strasburg and worked as a journeyman for some time, then opened a shop at Hiertigheim and continued in the business until 1853, when he left his native land and came to America, landing at New York October 29 of that year.  In June, 1854, he came to Madison, Wis., and thence to New Glarus, where he purchased a farm on which his father and only daughter settled.  He then went to the town of Sylvester and worked in the shop of C.F. Thompson seven months.  He then engaged with S.S. Hills at Monticello a few months then came to Albany and had a position with Charles Campbell until 1862, when he opened a shop and carried on the business of merchant tailor until the fall of 1864, when at his country’s call, he enlisted in the old 5th Wisconsin Volunteers Company 1, Capt. Thomas Flint being his captain.  He belonged to the 6th Army corps, Army of the Potomac, General Meade commanding.  On the 2nd day of April, 1865, he was seriously wounded at the battle of Petersburg.  After being seven months in the hospital, he returned again to his family, who had in the meanwhile lived in the country with his father-in-law.  He settled again in the village of Albany and engaged in his old trade—merchant tailor—and did a flourishing business.  In 1882 he sold out and only retained the  post office.  He was married three times.  His first wife was Eva Baszler, who bore him two children, one of whom is now living.  Mrs. Lemmel and an infant son died on the ocean while on the way to America.  His second wife was Orphia Stauffacher, born in Switzerland, coming to this country when six years old.  Six children were blessed to this union—Lydia, Mare E., William T., Emma, Ella and John.  His third wife (nee Mrs. E Solamon) has been dead several years, Mr. Lemmel making his home with his children in the interim.  At the time of his death he was living with his son John of this city.  He was buried from the M.E. Church (where he worshipped) Wednesday, June 21 at 2:30 pm services conducted by Rev. Howarth and Rev. Brenaman.  In token of the esteem and respect in which he was held it need only be said that on the day of the funeral all the business houses and factories of the town were closed.  The G.A.R. acted as an escort and pall bearers.  For all kindnesses the children expressed their many, many thanks.
